How to schedule a routine for a JamBots bot

A routine is a prompt with a schedule. Open a bot, choose Routines, then New routine, write the prompt and pick one time, an interval, or a cron expression with a time zone. You can also just ask the bot to set it up. Each run posts its result or a question in the bot's thread.

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Open the bot's routines

Open the bot and choose Routines. You will see every routine the bot has and the history of each one's runs.

  2. Step 2

    Write the prompt

Choose New routine and write what the bot should do each time, as you would in chat. For example: summarize yesterday's support tickets by theme.

  3. Step 3

    Pick the schedule

Choose one time, an interval such as every 4 hours, or a cron expression. Set the time zone the schedule should follow.

  4. Step 4

Save and watch the first run

Save the routine. Each run starts within 60 seconds of its scheduled time and appears in the bot's thread with its result or a question.

Or ask the bot

You do not have to use the form. In the bot’s thread, write something like “every weekday at 8 a.m. Eastern, check the status page and tell me if anything is degraded.” The bot creates the routine and confirms the schedule it set.

When the computer is asleep

A bot’s computer sleeps when idle to save resources. A routine still starts on time: the computer wakes for the run, with its files and browser sign-ins intact.
